        Convenient and easy setup

This product is great when you want to set up a wired connection and not have to run cable, you simply plug everything in and hit the sync button and it's working. This is the AV500 so it doesn't give blazing fast speed but it's enough for your typical internet activities. I did have some issues with it randomly disconnecting for a while but I updated the firmware from their site and it hasn't happened since. The utility they have you download for the update has an option to turn off power saving mode if it continues to be a problem, which I haven't had to do. All in all TP-Link AV500 Nano Powerline Adapter does everything I want it to, and it makes me wonder why I didn't opt for an AV ethernet adapter any sooner.

        Ok product

I have this connected to my laptop docking station in my downstairs office and my router is upstairs, I don't believe they are on the same circuit so the speeds are not what I expected, I used the TP link utility to update the firmware on the units and set it to keep them on even when my laptop is powered off but almost every time I boot up my machine I have to unplug and then plug the unit back in to get a connection. I'm not sure if it's my network or just the nature of these units. The increased speed that I am getting is not that much more than I was getting with the wireless. It could be just my setup. I am sure this is ideal for some people, depending on how their house is wired but the benefits for me do not outweigh the frustration of having to unplug and replug every bootup

      • IT DOES THE JOB IT'S DESIGNED TO DO.

There's nothing complicated about setting it up and it serves the purpose quite well. If you need to have a direct network connection instead of using WIFI, this is a fantastic solution. You do not need to drill holes or run cables. The Powerline allows your house wiring to be the conductor for your network. The nice part is that the TP Link has a sleep mode to reduce power consumption when idle. They say you can't use it on a power strip, but that's only when surge protection is present. I have both ends connected to un-protected power strips and they work perfectly. The AV 500 proved to be a reliable no hassle solution for me.

      • Next thing to a direct connection!

I was having trouble with Wi-Fi reaching my Roku box in a far corner of the house, and wireless 'range extenders' did little to help the situation. A friend recommended a PLC (Power Line Carrier) approach and I found this pair of TP-Link units on eBay at a virtual giveaway price. I just plugged them in and they found each other instantly, and now the Roku performs as if it's wired directly to a LAN port on the router. I got a second pair and used one as a Wi-Fi alternative or backup to my main computer, and was able to add it to the PLC 'network' with no problems. It does not seem to matter which leg of the AC mains these are on, they give a solid connection even with all the motors, light dimmers, etc. that generate noise. Very impressive!

      • Works well, really depends on location of each unit

I got these units to add a wired network for my Playstation 4, since the wifi sucks so hard on the Sony consoles. I first set up the "sending" (network side) unit in one location of the house, and the "receiving" (PS4 side) next to that. They synced immediately, but the throughput was pretty terrible. I then relocated the "sending" side to another part of the house, and the performance went up a lot. I'm quite happy, and for the $25 I paid, well worth it. =)
