These will never die. I used the sticky tape to keep them in place, but probably didn't need to. The hinges stay in place without clamping down too hard on the plinth, so there shouldn't be any long-term damage or scuff marks. They are basically invisible, doing the job of holding the lid in place. I'm very happy with my purchase.
