About this product

Product Information

The celebrated designer of the popular RollerCoaster Tycoon games returns to his Transport Tycoon roots with this business empire simulation. Chris Sawyer's Locomotion places players in competition with other railway shipping magnates and robber barons, to lead the transportation market and rack up the biggest profits. The game takes place from the early 1900s through the year 2000 (and beyond), and features more than 40 scenarios that highlight the technological advances that influenced the transportation industry during the 20th century. In addition to rail traffic, players will make use of trolleys, trucks, buses, ships, and airplanes as they develop a shipping empire to rule all others.

  • Locomotion a Bit Too "Loco"!

Chris Sawyer had done yet another great job with graphics in a fun game of transport. I thoroughly enjoyed the creative freedom to design my own landscape, place initial buildings and assemble trains and route scenarios. Unfortunately, as in his other games like Roller Coaster - Chris has failed to allow buyer/players the opportunity to completely control their fate - and instead, subjects them to the quirks and idiosyncracies that he has made a part of the program. I would have loved the option to create my world at my pace - and just be able to sit back and enjoy it absent the pesky challenges. For example, instead of towns and cities that mulitiply and crowd the landscape like an out of control vine, I would have liked the ability to place buildings at a more leisurely pace and ...

  • Great at first...

Love the concept, but it becomes incredibly tedious and redundant after a few hours of play. The micro-management of all the mechanical repairs take away from the enjoyment of the game. An automatic repair or replacement option should have been offered. The concept of the game is good, but extremely difficult to offer all the products available to your cities. Limited coverage from each store, and the inability to build new stores just anywhere also add to the frustration of the game. Overall, it's good fun for about 48-96 hours, then it starts getting old and tiresome. Of course, this is just my opinion.

  • Great teacher for kids

My 7 year old daughter loves this game. She connects factories with rail. Connects towns with tram tracks and roads. Puts in airports, busses, trucks, boats, planes and all... It introduces her to the power and complexities real city officials and planners must feel. Also, if you do things right your profits go up, which for children, is a good intro to economics. Great for ages 7 and up. As always children will need occasional help, guidance and explanations.

  • Locomotion

Great game if you are into the simulation genre as I am. Graphics could have used a bit more of an upgrade and interface still a little clunky but these are easily overlooked because the game is just so fun. I didn't give a 5 out of 5 because of the graphics and user interface thing. A must have for simulation game lovers. I almost forgot the fast forwarding of time to see how what you have built works without having to wait like you used to in older versions from Chris Sawyer.
