  • Thoughtful scifi...

How would you react if you were the last person on earth and there were no zombies to keep you company...depressed...lonely...suicidal...these are some of the emotions traversed by Zac Hobson when he woke up one day to find he is the last survivor on earth. There are not only no zombies, but there are no bodies of any animal left to evidence past inhabitants. Hobson is a scientist who had been working on a top secret energy grid that enveloped the earth by satellite and aircraft...and of course it was so secret he didn't know all the details of the program. When Hobson finds out his program was the cause of earth's animal life destruction, his initial feelings of...depression...loneliness and suicide...didn't seem so bad. Just when all seems lost he comes upon a woman, the expected ...

  • Quiet Earth earthy opening but not quite enough. A B movie 'barely.'

It is beyond my ken to believe that other reviewers saw merit where there is none. One gave it 5 Stars and conceded that it was a B movie! (The movie is lame and anyone who says otherwise is lamer or vengeful like the trolls who lured unsuspecting others in to watch The Blair Witch Project.) Dare I mention I Robot with the ubiquitous, overexposed Will Smith? Bare-assed Bruno Lawrence redefines cinematic overexposure which apparently won the accolades of the New Zealand Academy and the admiration of a sparse but influential group of reviewers. I think I got it! Everybody is already dead and this is what happens to you...or does it? I seek out foreign films and Award Winners but one this was a disappointment for me.

  • If you like to think...see this movie!!!

This is one of my all time favorite movies. The Quiet Earth is a bit slow at times and the plot can meander a bit, but if you want a real "thinker" movie this is for you. I have only seen it once, but that was about 20 years ago and I still talk about the thesis of the story at dinner parties. Side note, there is a new movie coming out this year (2007) that has name brand actors that is basically the same story. A true testament to how this story transcends time (no pun intended).

  • Just a human idea that changed the universe.....

This movie really touches a lot in the human aspect of what it would be like to be the only person alive and what you would do and what you would have to do to continue to live or to die. It's a very interesting and thought provoking concept that this story conveys. The simplicity of the images is what really brings out what the story is truly about, if you can conceive the theory. Splendid indeed.

  • Can't help liking this movie

Ok. I know its a B movie. I know its got a very limited cast, but that's necessary based upon the premise. But I can't help liking this movie. Its got funny parts and scary parts and strangely enough it was years ahead of time in talking about a lot of environmental issues that are now moving to the front burner. If you don't mind Doomsday Australian style give this movie a look.
