  • Sondheim and Cook, perfectly meshed.

Sondheim is Broadway's greatest composer, and Cook was its greatest singer. She just kept getting better. Add an ideal pianist and fine bassist, and the result is rare. For me the peak was "Losing My Mind"; for many it would "Send in the Clowns." But he isn't the only composer. But he writes his own lyrics, as terse as the music, without a single wasted word or note. Her voice is a miracle, more perfect each decade.
