I use it as a personal cloud for the family and I use the surveillance station NVR app. The processor and memory are more than enough. Synology has a lot of other excellent software that runs on this NAS like hyper backup, and snap shots. It has two network interfaces so that you can connect a poe switch to one and keep your security video network traffic separate from other network traffic.
