Soon Jared and his twin brother, Simon (also played by Highmore with the aid of seamless special effects), are drawn into a realm of goblins, boggarts, and ogres--a reality that coexists with the human world. By the time the boys' older sister, Mallory (Sarah Bolger), is in on their secret, the siblings are steeped in a conflict with the evil shape-shifting ogre Mulgarath (Nick Nolte), who will stop at nothing to get Spiderwick's book.Directed by Mark Waters (THE HOUSE OF YES, MEAN GIRLS) and scripted in part by lauded filmmaker John Sayles (THE SECRET OF ROAN INISH), SPIDERWICK succeeds as an engaging kid-oriented movie that also offers up genuine thrills and chills for adults.     Good adaptation

    They did a very good job of converting the characters into live action ones. There are many parts of the books that are left out, but over all it was entertaining.

    Spiderwick Chronicles

    This is an awesome movie. I bought it because anyone can enjoy it. It is a wonderful fantasy tale about a house brownie , toad like goblins and sprites put together with 3 average modern kids. there are many fantastical creatures, a wonderful story line and awesome actors. I know I'll enjoy watching this movie many times again..I recommend this to anyone with kids 8 & up [use caution when goblins melt a little gory] and everyone that loves fantasy!

    dvd that uses the imagination of young and old

    I purchased the Spiderwick Chronicles dvd. This was bought for my grandson. This viedo corresponds with the Spiderwick books. I had the books and very much wanted the dvd so he can watch after reading the books. This dvd allows kids to use their imagination. It is very exciting and enjoyable for entire family. Our local YMCA had pool and video night. the kids floated in the pool while watching the movie and had a great time.
