F.E.A.R. -- or "First Encounter Assault and Recon" -- is a first-person shooter set in a secretive complex full of government intrigue. Players take the role of a member of an elite squad of soldiers that's called in when conventional troops have failed. One such situation occurs when a crazed battlefield commander named Paxton Fettel escapes from a military instillation with a unit of troops. The first strike Special Forces team sent to quell the invasion was decimated minutes after arriving on the scene. Now it is up the F.E.A.R. squad to isolate the invaders and eliminate them, before anyone else gets hurt (or any multibillion-dollar government equipment is lost).<br><br>The game's realistic, near-future setting and storyline feature elements of horror, supernatural vision, and even philosophical insight. The lead character is not given a name, in order to encourage the player to more fully assume the role, but well-developed teammate characters are designed to bring a personal context to the adventure. FEAR is one of the best games ever made. The AI to this day is the best ever made. That's not hyperbole. While the environments can get a little stale, it doesn't matter because the unpredictable AI makes up for the somewhat predictable environments. Every 1 star review for this game is written with broken English, poor grammar, and no details. That says it all. If you're a thinking, honest person, you'll love this game. It's absolutely a gem even in 2018. They don't make games like they used too and the FEAR series ended too soon. I wish they would remake all the games and add more content. Guns blazing and particle effects galore! all in a nice creepy environment!!! particles are in the next section tho :) so hang tight.well you dont have to worry about a shortage of ammo seeing how theres stuff laying around each map.plus theres plenty of enemies to impale using the new gun not seen in the pc version!! the impaler which shoots out spikes and will leave a lifeless lump clinging to a wall or whatever the spike sticks them to!!!!!with a bunch of evil surprises lurking around any corner you never know what will hit you.the story kept me in this game to the end,and i couldnt stop playing until i found out what happens.I wont ruin the ... Sound 9 out of 10: creepy sounds coming out of your surround will most likely make you paranoid and feel as if something is lurking behind you.EXACTLY what you want from a game like this.the guns dont sound as powerful as they should but overall the sound is great and well worth cranking up the surround for. great game you owe it to yourself to pick this one up

It is a interesting game
I love anything with horro attached to it. I also am a big fan of FPS's. So when I learned they were putting those two together I was instantly filled with glee. And after playing F.E.A.R. I must say it is an enjoyable game, but not a perfect game. My biggest complaints about the game are the shifts in how the game feels. Some levels are immensely creepy (but suffer from the "jump scares" of most horror mediums), but then in the middle of the game I saw level after level that had nothing scary whatsoever going on. I remember thinking, "this is F.E.A.R., right?" and then wondering where all the thrills and scares were. Luckily, the game has a strong action side that makes up for where scares are nonexistent. F.E.A.R on the 360 is pretty much a direct port from the PC version, with the exception of a 10-15 minute bonus level played as another character. Nothing ground breaking, but it's something. So if you've already played the PC version, there's basically nothing new here. For the have-nots of the PC installment you're in for a treat. You start off as an operative of the unit called F.E.A.R. or First Encounter Assault Recon. Assault than Recon? Yeah I know it doesn't make much sense but you got to give the publishers credit for trying. The story is very compelling and I'd rather not give too much away. Just picture Half-Life 2 and The Ring movie. This title has something special, that one thing that most games can only dream of having. Absolutely awesome A.I. (Artificial ... F.E.A.R's A.I. is bar-none the best I have ever experienced. Ever. Most developers make the mistake of thinking "tough A.I." is simply having the enemy take more hits and aim better than you. This is wrong. The average grunt in F.E.A.R (or rather clone) die just as easy as you. But that's not to say they're all that easy to get to either. The beauty of these guys is that they act like real soldiers. They lay suppressing fire to flank, blind fire around corners and even toss well placed grenades for good measure. All while shouting orders between each other. Bundled with the unnerving story, very intimidating for first timers. Unfortunately thats where all the "Awesome" ends. The multiplayer is weak and rife with issues. It says it supports up to 16 players (8vs8) but that's just not the case. Any more than 10-12 people and things just chug. It's just not designed for that many people. It also doesn't help having small maps. Nearly every map is a series of uncreative maze-like hallways with one or two open areas to fight it out in (if you're lucky). Even with teams, it just ends up as run-n-gun deathmatches with people spread out, lost in hallways and duct work. Theres just no strategy to it. It's fun until you realize how shallow it all is. It's a real shame considering how solid the single player gameplay is. So much potential lost. I'm still scratching my head on this one.

This game has it all. The scary single player option. Great Multi and so much more. I own this game both on the PC and on my 360. I feel the single player story was a bit on the short side. But most great FPS games always feel short if you love them. Now here is where the game shines in my opinion. MULTIPLAYER. Are you a fan of the Quake series? Feel that every other FPS is slow in comparison? Just cant get into the online part of gaming without that super fast twitch motion? Look no further. Even without its Slowmotion effect online this game shines. And on the 360 has a great following. I personaly cant stand a game that seems that my character is running in slow motion or at best a fast walk. If that is what keeps you away from buying a other FPS games. You have found it. For as long as this game has been out, its selling price on eBay shows thats its still a fore runner of the great FPS games the 360 has to offer. Getting this for under $30 is a steal.
