nVidia Quadro FX5800 - excellent choice for professional work
When I purchased my photo editing "workhorse" (Intel i7 extreme hexacore with vcore, 64GB ram, boots from mirrored SSD, data disks RAID5..,.) a couple of years ago I did not want to spend too much on the graphics card. At the time I purchased a nVidia Quadra 2000 which was ok. This year I decided to upgrade and got a refurbished Quadra FX5800 from Ebay - cheap, silent and powerful. One of the reasons for the update was a new graphics package I installed not fully compliant with the Quadra 2000. It seems to match well with the rest of my computer. Photoshop loves it. I have 2 pcs of 24" HP Performance series displays attached to it. The power supply (silent 800W) I purchased with the computer is big enough to feed the new graphics card even though the new card has two additional power feed ... A good workhorse for professionals. Very good price now but for used cards (begining 2013)! FX5800 may be better then 4800 or 3800 because it's big amount of memory - very good for 3D modeling of a large number of elements and the multilayer video. If you don't need more than 4 layers of video + subtitles or much 3d elements - FX4800 is better. High level of automatic fan control, - it is too hot. Great alternate for my system build with limited funds
Purchase this used and cost me $200 and works great in my system build. Great alternate graphics cards when you don't have enough funds to purchase the newer design Quadro K4000, K5000 or K6000. Very satisfied with the result. My system build. Zalman MS800 ATX, Rosewill 1000 watts PSU, Quadro FX5800, i7 3770K, Corsair H00I liquid cool, Corsair 16gb RAM DDR3 1600, Asrock Extreme6 Z77, Window 7 SP1 64 bits, HP DVD, LG Blu Ray, Corsair 220mm additional cooling fan, two Toshiba 3TB 7.2K, 1TB WD 10KPurchase this used and cost me $200 and works great in my system build. NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800 is good quality product even old quadro series have GDDR3. It look smart card and worth if you get it in low price. For home workstation NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800 still interesting!
