Like Fresh Ears for An Old Favorite - Rock of Ages
The Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs SACD of The Band's Rock of Ages is like fresh ears for what is an old favorite. This has been my favorite live album since I first heard it when it was released on vinyl in the '70s. What sets apart this performance recording from many others is the quality of the original recording. MFSL makes the most of this recording. » The sound stage is wide and open. » Instruments are clearly defined. » Vocals sound natural and have tons of presence. » The inter-track crowd noise seems a bit thin despite excellent volume. » There is just enough crowd noise during tracks to keep reminding you that this is not a studio album. » There is little doubt that The Band is at their peak when they are playing. Each cut comes across as genuine and fresh. » The horn section ... The Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs SACD of The Band's Rock of Ages is like fresh ears for what is an old favorite.
