About this product

Product Information

The hugely acclaimed New York Times Best Seller, now available in paperback *A National Book Critics Circle Award Finalist* ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF 2014: The New York Times Book Review (Top 10), Entertainment Weekly (Top 10) , New York Magazine , Chicago Tribune (Top 10), Publishers Weekly (Top 10), Time Out New York (Top 10), Los Angeles Times , Kirkus, Booklist, NPR's Science Friday , Newsday , Slate, Refinery 29 , and many more... In this bold, fascinating book, Eula Biss addresses our fear of the government, the medical establishment, and what may be in our children's air, food, mattresses, medicines, and vaccines. Reflecting on her own experience as a new mother, she suggests that we cannot immunize our children, or ourselves, against the world. As she explores the metaphors surrounding immunity, Biss extends her conversations with other mothers to meditations on the myth of Achilles, Voltaire's Candide , Bram Stoker's Dracula , Rachel Carson's Silent Spring , Susan Sontag's AIDS and Its Metaphors , and beyond. On Immunity is an inoculation against our fear and a moving account of how we are all interconnected-our bodies and our fates.

Written before COVID, it nonetheless speaks directly to the concerns of the pandemic era--to the fact that we are dangerous as well as vulnerable, to the way collective well-being and individual self-interest are configured at odds to one another when they are fundamentally intertwined."--Jia Tolentino "Eula Biss's On Immunity is informative, thought-provoking, and beautifully written. It's one of those rare books that has become more relevant with time."--Elizabeth Kolbert, Publishers Weekly Top Ten Books of the Year Kirkus Reviews Books of the Year in Nonfiction The New York Times Editors' ChoiceBEA Editors Buzz Book "Subtle, spellbinding . . . Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!
