About this product

Product Information

Tomás Ó'Crohan was born on the Great Blasket Island in 1856 and died there in 1937, a great master of his native Irish. He shared to the full the perilous life of a primitive community, yet possessed a shrewd and humorous detachment that enabled him to observe and describe the world. His book is a valuable description of a now vanished way of life; his sole purpose in writing it was in his own words, 'to set down the character of the people about meso that some record of us might live after us, for the like of us will never be again.'

Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

I have had the privilege of reading several of the Irish authors books about the Blasket Island living. This is an excellent book...which I recommend to all walks of life. What hardships were endured during the time in which this island was inhabited. What wonderful people emerged from the midst of these many adventures that they now share with us. They have so much to share and so much to give us...if we have an ear to listen...and a heart to feel what they have tried to poor out of themselves and their many rich experiences of the journey of life. It was through my interest of study about Ireland in general that led me to the discovery of these rich books...Isandman; Peig Sayers (life); Twenty Years A-Growing by Maurice O'Sullivan....I highly recommend these all to any who have an ...

  • First-hand account of the Blasket islands.

After a recent trip to the western ireland, this book topped off the history I learned of the suffering people of the Blasket islands. I recommend this firsthand account.
