About this product

Product Information

Bristol in 1787 is booming, a city where power beckons those who dare to take risks. Josiah Cole, a small dockside trader, is prepared to gamble everything to join the big players of the city. But he needs capital and a well-connected wife. Marriage to Frances Scott is a mutually convenient solution. Trading her social contacts for Josiah's protection, Frances finds her life and fortune dependent on the respectable trade of sugar, rum, and slaves. Into her new world comes Mehuru, once a priest in the ancient African kingdom of Yoruba, now a slave in England. From opposite ends of the earth, despite the difference in status, Mehuru and Frances confront each other and their need for love and liberty.

Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷‍♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

Most relevant reviews

  • Compelling, heart wrenching

This book is hard to read from the standpoint of content. Though slaves have been captured, sold and used since ancient times all over this planet, this more recent historical novel brings the idea closer to home. Well written, this is a clear view of daily life in an era we as humans may prefer to forget.

  • A Respectable Trade,

Philippa Gregory is an outstanding writer. I find her books both entertaining and informative. This book about the triangle trade was very good. A nice easy read. I have read most of Gregory's books. Anyone interested in history would find them excellent.

  • A Respectable Trade by Phillippa Gregory

A wonderful story of the slave trade in England. Phillippa Gregory at her best mingling a powerful love story with descriptive account of the terrible slave trade England began. One of her best. I bought this book to give to a friend as a gift as I can't part with my copy. Highly recommend this powerful account of English history and the beginning of William Willberforce's campaign to ban slavery.

  • This is my second read of the book. Awesome product.

It is a very interesting account of slavery during that time period. I like the author because in the book she backs up the story with facts.

  • Completing a series

Order book to complete a series. Have not read yet. Have read several othger titles by this author and have liked them all.
