Hello sorry for the delay here. I waited till Christmas to open it up and play it. All is well. Plays fine. Beautiful Christmas program. Wonderful seller. Quick delivery too. Ordered item on a Friday and received delivery next Thursday. Very nice price too, especially for a senior like me. Packaged up fine too. Also, so glad to finally add this to my Christmas collection and retire my VHS recording from off the TV. Shame I'll only play it at Christmas time. Bye for now.

  • Great Film! Lots of Action and Thrills. True Story

This was a great movie from the standpoint of Russian imprisonment in Siberia after the War. It is a true story. About one out of 7 Germans returned from captivity. We empathize with the hero of this story just as we don't empathize with Germans who actually perpetrated the scorched earth policies in Eastern Europe. Certainly many thousands of Eastern European villages were destroyed by the Germans during the war, not to mention the death camps. We like Clemens Ferell. We follow his unlikely journey from Siberia near Alaska, all the way to Iran. This was an action survival film with a heart, and a conscience. At one point a Jew rescues this German escapee in a Central Asian Republic which causes his own death in the process. Clemens Ferell is trying to get back to his wife and ...

  • Awesome story/Foreign Film

I bought this film for my father for a Christmas gift. My dad was from Germany and his dad was also forced to go to war and was stuck in Russia for awhile. The film is in German with English subtitles. Since my family speaks German, it was easier for us to understand, but also a great way to keep up with our German as we mostly speak English. Although this was a gift for my dad, the adults in my family enjoyed watching it very much. It is a great testament of what a man will do to reunite with the ones he loves and left behind through no fault of his own. There is violence and some nudity so keep that in mind with younger children.

  • I will never forget this MOVIE!

The first time I saw this movie was in the 50's in Black & White in Germany. I sat and watch it with my German Mother I was just a little girl back then but I had never forgotten what an impact it had on me. My mother and I both cried watching it. I think because my Mother had gone through so much during World War Two that it brought back so many memories for her. Some good and some bad. My mother told us many stories about the War. We loved hearing them over and over. She is no longer with us but her life stories will never leave our hearts and mind. People seem to forget that not all Germans were Nazis. They were hard working people who loved their families and did not want War at all.

  • Great Movie on the will to live. And it's true.

Most of the haracters are very believable and flawed like most people. Doen't have the Hollywood glitter, good vs evil, car chase stuff. The English subtitles actually make it a better movie than having it dubbed. The only part that seemed a bit phoney was the part where the prison master kept showing up in the chase. This is one part of the story that wasn't true. The movie is long but the story is cut short compared to the book.

  • Great true story

I would recommend this to everyone.
