About this product

Product Information

The Archaeology of Ancient Greece provides a synthesis of research on the material culture of Greece in the Archaic and Classical periods (1000-300 BC). The rich and diverse material culture of ancient Greece has always provoked admiration and even wonder, but it is seldom analysed as a key to our understanding of Greek civilisation. Dr Whitley shows how the material evidence can be used to address central historical questions for which literary evidence is often insufficient. He also situates Greek art within the broader field of Greek material culture, providing an historically more accurate perspective on both. This is a significant contribution to the integration of archaeological and art historical evidence.

Reviews
'... deserves the attention of all ... an excellent account of what the discipline is, where it has been, and where it is now'. Bryn Mawr Classical Review, '… deserves the attention of us all … an excellent account of what the discipline is, where it has been, and where it is now'. Bryn Mawr Classical Review, '... deserves the attention of us all ... an excellent account of what the discipline is, where it has been, and where it is now'. Bryn Mawr Classical Review, "It is an excellent account of what the discipline is, where it has been, and where it is now. Especially good is Whitley's tracking of the influences on the contemporary scene of science, structuralism, and the 'new' archeaology." Paul D. Scotton, University of Washington, ‘… deserves the attention of us all … an excellent account of what the discipline is, where it has been, and where it is now’.Bryn Mawr Classical Review, "In this invaluable and long-needed book on Greek archaeology, Whitley begins with a discussion on the nature of classical art, then draws on his own expertise to present an outstanding account of the early development of Greek culture.... Accessible to a general archaeological readership, this book is essential for academic libraries, where it will become a standard sourcebook." Choice

Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!
