"Digimon World DS" was developed and released in November 2006 by Bandai Namco Games exclusively for the Nintendo DS. It is the first in the Digimon story series of games, and the first Digimon game to appear on the Nintendo DS. "Digimon World" is of the RPG genre, but rather than focusing on individual characters, the player instead becomes a Digimon Tamer. You work to befriend and raise wild Digimon while gathering resources. These resources can be given to your favorite monster to help it in battle with enemies. You can also use resources to transform some Digimon into rare forms for superior fighting effectiveness. Several new Digimon types and forms were introduced in this game, and there are 230 unique Digimons in the game.In the world of Digimon, the story focuses completely on befriending and helping the digital creatures that inhabit the Digiverse. There are numerous rogue agents and enemies to fight. However, the primary purpose of these battles is to train the player in how the game is played, and help them level up their team to be more prepared for combat with other players. Short videos and other demonstrations within the game display the basics, and the rest of the game is learned through challenges and exploration.Players can explore the wilderness areas to encounter new creatures, which they can defeat for combat experience or capture to train them for more combat later. Each creature has its sprites and animations and can be interacted with via the touch screen. The creature will need to be fed, cared for, and put through a series of training exercises so that it can do its best in combat. Players can access in-game guides to determine the best way to raise their new friends. The guides can also help players learn about the strengths and abilities of each creature as well as its subsequent evolutions.The primary focus of the gameplay in "Digimon World" is in the multiplayer mode. In addition to using the Nintendo DS local Wi-Fi service, it is possible to connect to the Nintendo online play servers and challenge other gamers from all over the world. Players can use any of the creatures they have captured and trained within their campaign, and their statistics and results are recorded for bragging rights and subsequent training. While online, players can also trade Digimon and help one another collect a complete set of monsters. This enables players to be better prepared for the campaign, fill potential weaknesses in their team, or exchange rare evolved forms of certain monsters."Digimon World DS" is a deep game with many hundreds of hours of gameplay. Not Your Typical Monster Catching Game
Fans of the series will most likely enjoy this RPG for Nintendo's handheld system, the DS. The gameplay is only slightly similar to that of Pokemon: find and "catch" over 250 Digimon and become the world's best tamer. But despite the similarites, there are plenty of interesting and fun differences that make this game stand out from Pokemon. For starters, you don't actually "catch" wild Digimon. You have to encounter them a set number of times in the wild until you've collected enough Scan Data, which you can then use to Digiconvert them into a Digimon partner. The amount of Scan Data collected during each encounter differs with each Digimon. Training is done like so: You can place Digimon into your party, and have up to six of the critters with you at one time. During battle, up to three ... After Digimon have been converted, they can be placed in the farm along with Goods that will help them train themselves. This is especially helpful if you have a weak Digimon that you need to level up quickly. You can see what is going on in your farm on the top screen of the DS while gameplay takes place on the bottom screen. You also can visit your Digifarm. When it's time to evolve the critters, they can have a multitude of options available for them. Depending on the level your Digimon is at and the kinds of eperience they have earned, Digimon may evolve into a number of creatures. Consequently, certain Digimon have evolution requirements that must be met prior to evolving, or they can't get to that next level. You also can degrade your Digimon and make them go back a level. My only gripe thus far is that it seems too quick. After you've completed the main storyline and become the Tamer King, all that's really left to do is go back and fill in the missing gaps in your collection. There is also Multiplayer play via WFC, but it is limited to battles, Digimatching (you and a friend pair Digimon together to make new Digimon), and trading, much in the style of Pokemon. You also can't access this online area until after you've reached a certain rank in the game. All in all, this game is a nice change of pace from the typical monster catching method of throwing colorful balls at creatures. Fans of the series will also get a kick out of being able to catch and fight with their favorite character from the show.

Great for its time
Digimon World DS is a fun little game, with a lot of different digimon to use for your team. The game play is a little repetitive but still it’s an interesting enough game to keep you hooked! Definitely would recommend to someone looking for a game similar to Pokémon!

Fun and enjoyable
It's easy enough to play with just enough difficulty to pull you in. The game is good quality and worth my time. On the other hand the intro was a little confusing and overwelming, with to many instructions at once. However once you get past the tutorial it's a really enjoyable game. I would buy it again.

I almost love this game as much as the original Digimon World (for PlayStation One), and that's a hard thing to say... The biggest plus is the huge list of monsters you can own in the game. Certain parameters is listed in the "Digivolution Route" so that the player easy can get all the Digimon he/she wants. Another nice thing is the way to obtain new Digimon and raise them. First, you collect scan data (999% is the highest, and makes the strongest newborn Digimon) that you convert into new Digimon by "Digiconversion". You don't only raise Digimon by using them in battles. A new feauture is the "Digi Farm", where you install "Training Goods", allowing Digimon in the ...
