About this product

Product Information

Opening in 2006 after ten years in the making, British Petroleum's $4 billion pipeline, running from the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean, has become an icon of globalization. Over a thousand miles long, it weaves a route around the Russian and Iranian borders, transporting oil and gas to hungry Western markets. Bringing to bear a wealth of expertise on their subject, the authors look at the reality behind the pipeline's gleaming facade. Traveling along its route, they trace the shadowy forces and institutions behind it, meeting whistleblowers, security forces, local villagers and fishermen; in doing so, they expose a story of cracked coatings, new arms races and displaced local communities. They explore, too, the wider forces the pipeline represents, from state repression, investment banking and energy security, to environmental degradation and social movements. A compelling travelogue, The Oil Road explores the hidden history of an iconic project that is also a metaphor for our age.

A distinctive blend of travelogue, reportage and history."- Financial Times "Inspirational in the proper sense."- Guardian "A lovingly crafted narrative, a rich tapestry of first-hand anecdote and historical reconstruction."- Independent "Elegant ... verges on the psychogeographical ... The human stories behind the pipeline's construction."- Literary Review "Opens the lid on the often-shady energy economy, weaving absorbing travel reportage into powerful investigative journalism."- Time Out Book of the Week "Seamlessly weaves an engaging personal story into the current geopolitics of oil aggression and the volatile recent history of the region."- Red Pepper "Part-travelogue, part-reportage, The Oil Road is a powerful ... account of how a valuable natural resource can ruin the lives of ordinary people ... Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷‍♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!
