A game that defined a genre

The third game in the Metroid series, Super Metroid was also third iteration on the formula that Metroid for the NES defined. Well the first was vast and almost completely none linear, and Samus Returns was entirely linear exploring each sector in sequence as they came up, Super Metroid has a defined path that one can break form if they are skilled enough. It encourages exploration of old locations and discovery of new paths. Criss crossing a cohesive map that makes the whole game a blast to play. This game serves as the foundation for which all future metroid-vania games would come. Graphically speaking the game is well polished a good example of what can be done with 16bits. The locations are all varied and the enemies have quite a few frames of animation giving them a sense of life. In ...

  • Great game. Addicting as heck.

This game is seriously awesome. Really hard, though. I didn't play Metroid on the NES, so this never made it into the collection. Definitely worth the purchase. In terms of quality of the product itself, it was perfect. No issues. In terms of the game, really good game. Jump mechanic is a little weird, but once you get used to it, this game will keep you occupied for a good while. Took me almost 11 hours to get through it the first time, and already re-played it once!

  • Works like New

Despite the game being about 29 years old, the cartridge works quite well. No dusting or cleaning needed. I just popped it right into my snes and it worked fine. My copy had a save file that was already started, but it wasn't very far in the game and probably just used to make sure the cartridge worked. Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if this was a reproduction cartridge with how nice it looks and how well it works. Gameplay is smooth as usual, and the Super Metroid game itself is nearly a masterpiece of snes gameplay.

  • Prompt delivery and great condition!

I found that the Japanese copies of Super Metroid (for the Super Famicom) are less expensive than the American carts, even though the software on both carts is completely identical, and both can be played in either Japanese or English. So I cut out the tabs on my Super Nintendo that stop Super Famicom games from fitting inside, and the Super Famicom version worked perfectly as expected. The Cartridge was not really yellowed at all as far as I could tell, and the label wasn't faded from UV exposure. The game itself held up beautifully. I'd never played Super Metroid before, so no nostalgia here. It has tight controls and an amazing story with great bosses and enemies. The graphics are the height of pixel art, with some neat effects which really show the capability of the SNES. So much so ...

  • Awesome Truly Authentic Game!

I went ahead and looked at the hardware inside the cartridge. I even posted a reddit post about a chip that I had no idea if it was authentic or not. Turned out to be very authentic. I believe goldstar or lucky goldstar is a premature LG. They must have done some work on the cartridge for nintendo. I tested the cartridge. Looking forward to grinding it out on my SNES. Stunning game it looks like. I saw the intro screen it looked fascinating. Thanks!
