Teil allgemeinverständlich für Interessierte und Freunde des alten Buches, versehen mit historischen und handschriftenkundlichen Erläuterungen und einigen Beigaben; im II. Teil als Quellen für Wissenschaftler zahlreicher Fachgebiete und methodisch nach den international anerkannten Richtlinien der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft. Aufschlussreich ist das Lesen beider Beschreibungen derselben Handschrift, um die Methoden kennenzulernen, die zu den Ergebnissen moderner wissenschaftlicher Handschriftenforschung führen. Das Buch kann auch als eine Art Einführung in die mittelalterliche Handschriftenkunde gelten. Auf Bildmaterial wird verwiesen.
