About this product

Product Information

Known as the Audubon of Botany, Philadelphia, Quaker Mary Morris Vaux Walcott (1860-1940) was a gifted artist whose stunning watercolors comprise a catalog of North American wildflowers. Walcott was catapulted to the highest levels of society and national politics by a late and bold marriage to the secretary of the Smithsonian. Along with an early (1887) transcontinental travelogue, never-before published correspondence with fellow Quaker and First Lady Lou Henry Hoover, and Commissioner Mary Walcott's reports for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, this biography reveals rich intersections of history, religion, politics, women's studies, science, and art during the transformative times in which she lived. Walcott, and other intrepid women like her, who sought escape from Victorian social conventions and opportunity for adventure and self-expression in the American West, were gifted artists, writers, and historians.

Reviews
We owe a debt to Marjorie Jones for rescuing Mary Vaux Walcott from assorted archives and bringing to life a person of many parts--perceptive chronicler and photographer of her travels to the American West and Canada, an artist whose detailed paintings of Americanwildflowers earned her the sobriquet of "Audubon of Botany," President of the Society of Women Geographers, a Commissioner for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, ardent friend to Herbert and Lou Henry Hoover, drivingforce behind construction of Florida Avenue Meeting House in DC. She richly frames that life in period history, especially her detailed portraits of other strong Quaker women.Charles L. Cherry, Editor, Quaker History

Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷‍♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!
