The North American XB-70 is one of the most unusual looking aircraft in aviation history, and only two were constructed. It was originally designed as a Mach 3 high-altitude bomber, but was later used as a research aircraft. This new book by John Campbell and Garry Pape gives a short, detailed history of the XB-70, including production, flight tests, and the fatal crash of Aircraft #2 in 1965. Aircraft #1 is now at the U.S. Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB.

    Nice summary of an amazing airplane

    My father was an engineer at North American for almost 30 years and spent several years on this incredible plane. It was before my time, so I wasn't able to witness it, but he did take my sisters to a roll-out of it (I got to see the Shuttle Enterprise, so I guess that's not a bad trade-off). It was an amazing craft and I'm so proud of my Dad's contributions to it. Recently, I got nostalgic about him (he passed two years ago) and wanted to learn more about his career and the various aerospace projects of which he was a part. This book is short but pretty well compiled, with lots of pictures I hadn't seen before. It was a great read.

    XB-70 Book Review

    Excellent and well written book on the development to the final flight of this advanced aircraft. The photo's are very plentiful and very interesting to view. It also contains the tragic story and photo's of the mid-air collision of aircraft no.2 and it's total loss. Interesting read for the XB-70 lover.
