About this product

Product Information

This wacky comedy classic directed by Stanley Kramer features one of the largest collections of American comedians ever brought together on celluloid, resulting in the kind of far-out comic gem that only the 1960s could dish out. Filled with sharp one-liners, plenty of pratfalls and double takes, and unstoppable slapstick humor, this film never stops entertaining. The laughs come mostly from vehicle accidents of all kinds: car crashes, bike accidents, airplane failures, and almost everything else imaginable. But a good amount of humor is also lent to major wrestling matches, terrible mix-ups and misunderstandings, and increasingly absurd personalities such as Mrs. Marcus (Ethel Merman), the screeching and impossible mother-in-law. The film even laughs at itself, showing its flimsy cardboard sets as characters punch out walls or accidentally explode whole boxes of dynamite. The cast includes such favorites as Jonathan Winters, Phil Silvers, Milton Berle, Buddy Hackett, Mickey Rooney, Sid Caesar, Spencer Tracey, Terry-Thomas, and Dick Shawn, among countless others.Brilliantly simple, the plot concerns a caravan of motorists who witness a terrible accident on a dangerously windy California highway. The auto-crash victim (Jimmy Durante) reveals in his dying words that he has hidden a fortune of stolen cash, sending the drivers on a rambunctious race to see who can claim the loot first!

A wonderful dated comedy set in the american southwest.

Old time comedy. This film is a great way to introduce your children and grand children to the comedy greats for the 1960's. It also shows a slice of what products, gas stations, transportation and roadways were like. The movie Rat Race is kind of the modern update of this movie showing what greed will do to normal people. Have fun and enjoy.

  • A++ Rare DVD worth every penny!

Be sure to look for the (c)2001 and a host of special features listed on your copy of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. The extra features were removed from all versions after this one which is a shame. With around 3 hours of movie to watch and around 3 hours of special features you can't go wrong! The car chases and stunts are still amazing to this day! Mostly because they are all real! No CGI or effects here folks. Amazing metal on metal car stunts and slapstick comedy that will keep even younger viewers entertained. Great cast, great movie, great special features

  • Mad Over Mad X 4 World

This is the funniest movie ever made! It stars MANY MANY comedy celebrities and EACH of them was cast perfectly to take advantage of their best style of comedy, e.g Jonathon Winters as a goofy (less then a genius) truck driver; Phil Silvers as a con man; Ethel Merman as a loud-mouthed mother-in-law,; Carl Reiner, Eddie Adams, Milton Berle (MR. Television), Jim Backus, Arnold Stang, Mickey Rooney, Buddy Hackett, and so many cameos that you eventually lose count. I had always loved this movie and when I realized that I didn't have a DVD copy of it - I had to buy one on eBay. I HIGHLY recommend it for tons of laughs! Fred (gpafour)

  • Almost 50 years later, it's still A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World

I love this movie. I remember when I was a kid the local television station would play this movie most every New Years Eve. It became kind of a family tradition until we moved from that area. I have not seen this movie in years and it still is hilarious featuring some of the best comedians that ever were. I am so glad that MGM put this on DVD, now I can see whenever I want, it takes one back to the years before cell phones and PC's and back when people could be funny without being vulgar and the world seemed a bit less scary.

  • expanded DVD version

When this movie was made it ran over 3 hours and played in the Cinerama theater in Hollywood which is where I saw it. When it was shown in the rest of the country they edited it down to 2hrs 41 minutes. This is the version that has been available on video. The cut footage was thought to be lost. But, someone found it and re-edited it back into the Laser Disc version giving you a 3hr 8 min version with a documentary about the movie. (A double tape VHS version came out with the restored version, but it was only sort-of letterboxed. Not the complete widescreen, so you do miss half of the characters on the screen) When the DVD came out it waa decided that they would put on the "touring" version of 2:41 and give you the lost footage on side B, along with the documentary. The reason given ...
