This stimulating and easy to read book should appeal to a general readership, including agriculturalists, anthropologists, historians and food technologists., 'This stimulating and easy to read book should appeal to a general readership, including agriculturalists, anthropologists, historians and food technologists.' Journal of Experimental Agriculture 'Bread, Beer and the Seeds of Change makes a convincing and highly enjoyable case for fermentation as a key player in the history of agriculture. This fascinating book will change the way you think about the process and prospects for food production. Indeed, I know of no other book that so clearly illustrates the power of agricultural productivity to influence human destiny.' N. Michele Holbrook, Harvard University 'Couldn't put it down ... I'm amazed at the information ... and how [the authors] pulled it all together so nicely.' Jerry Bennett, University of Florida '[The book] offers exciting and novel insights that make for interesting reading. ... the role that 'bread and beer' played all over the world will draw the attention of an international audience.' Larry Purcell, University of Arkansas 'A welcome and timely contribution to the growing public discussion of the role of food in our lives. Historically informative and thoroughly engaging.' Fred Gregory, University of Florida, Patricia Gregory, Nutritionist, This work is a readable history of one of humankind's fundamental staples... Its straightforward approach makes it an engaging survey of the evolution of a basic food source. Summing Up: Recommended, 'Bread, Beer and the Seeds of Change makes a convincing and highly enjoyable case for fermentation as a key player in the history of agriculture. This fascinating book will change the way you think about the process and prospects for food production. Indeed, I know of no other book that so clearly illustrates the power of agricultural productivity to influence human destiny.' N. Michele Holbrook, Harvard University 'Couldn't put it down ... Jerry Bennett, University of Florida '[The book] offers exciting and novel insights that make for interesting reading. ... the role that 'bread and beer' played all over the world will draw the attention of an international audience.' Larry Purcell, University of Arkansas 'A welcome and timely contribution to the growing public discussion of the role of food in our lives. Historically informative and thoroughly engaging.' Fred Gregory, University of Florida, Patricia Gregory, Nutritionist, Concise and clearly written... The authors use their considerable expertise in crop sciences and nutrition to present a simplified, but reasonably comprehensive, description of the agronomy of grain crops, the processing of such crops for different foods, and some of the historical development of grains and related foods., Bread, Beer and the Seeds of Change is more than just a mere history or sociology text for discussions in a college classroom. The book is also an interesting read for the casual reader. I found the insets used throughout the book provided readers with a wealth of interesting insights into agriculture and sociology. A word of warning; this book may take a while for some to read, especially, those who happen to be beer connoisseurs. I experienced an unexplainable thirst for beer starting with Chapter Four after reading a recipe and instructions for brewing credited to George Washington. All readers may not have this problem, but for me I thoroughly enjoyed reading Bread, Beer and the Seeds of Change , with a bottle of beer close at hand.

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!
