A horrifically mutilated corpse found in a remote mountain village signifies a serious enough crime to call in Parisian detective Pierre Niemans (Jean Reno). Meanwhile, less than 200 miles away, the young upstart detective Kerkerian (HATE's Vincent Cassel) investigates a similarly bizarre crime, the defacement of a young girl's grave. As the two intrepid detectives pursue their cases--Niemans examining bizarre circumstances at a local university and Kerkerian interviewing the dead girl's recalcitrant mother (now a cloistered nun)--the two investigations pitch violently towards each other, forcing the detectives to join forces as they recognize the horrifying implications that may link the seemingly isolated crimes. The precarious mountain locale acts as a fittingly terse setting for Kassovitz's tight direction (and surprise ending) as well as Reno and Cassel's powerfully quirky performances, all of which make THE CRIMSON RIVERS a breathtaking and gut-wrenching instant genre classic.

A college town insulated from the world....engaged in eugenics....to create a superior human. Breeding athelets with high IQ students..but all of this inbreeding is causing genetic defects in the children..thus the title indicates the blood that flows like rivers in our bodies...However at the college hospital babies are switched and even killed in this breeding program...as one of the children grows up she begins to take revenge..and bodies begin poping up all over and Inspector of Police (Jean Reno) is called in from Paris to sort things out. When I first heard about this movie, I searched the internet for a full- movie version of the film. I did not find one - anywhere. Which made me think that this might be an exceptional film. Sadly, I was mistaken. I was motivated by the lead actors, Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel. I still do not understand how their cases drew each other together. I love Jean Reno in just about anything, but here I felt his talents were wasted. There is a sequel out there, and I did get a chance to see it. The film was so forgettable that I cannot remember the title. The sequel was really hostile to the Catholic Church with murderous monks and friars and Satanic worship. Don't waste your time on it. Overall both films promised to be exiting thrillers. Sadly it just sorta pooped out.When I first heard about this movie, I searched the internet for a full- movie version of the film. Excellent move, great suspense.
Jean Reno one of my favorite actors. He is such all around actor that can be serious but also humorous. This movie holds your attention until end. Great suspense.

Jean Reno in a familiar character although this time on the side of the law. Reno is a cop investigating the gruesome death of a mountain climber. As the corpse's turn up he is joined by another cop also trying to find a link between other similar murders. The plot has many twists and turns which are hard to keep up with, but will have you guessing who dunnit. A slight touch of romance gives you a breather from this fast moving movie.
