About this product

Product Information

Charlie Asher is a pretty normal guy with a normal life, married to a bright and pretty woman who actually loves him for his normalcy. They're even about to have their first child. Yes, Charlie's doing okay--until people start dropping dead around him, and everywhere he goes a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Charlie Asher, it seems, has been recruited for a new position: as Death. It's a dirty job. But, hey! Somebody's gotta do it.

Moore's signature tossed-off humor is in full effect, and it's easy to care about his warm, lumpy, honest characters., Dizzyingly inventive and hypnotically engaging, A DIRTY JOB is . . . like no other book I've ever read., Death, of Course, Is Not Usually a Funny Subject, but in the Hands of Christopher Moore It Sure Is., "Makes you laugh in the face of death." -- Rocky Mountain News "[Moore] is superb in this mock epic of death and love. Smart people will be enormously amused." -- Library Journal (starred review) "My top pick for laugh-out-loud reading . . . dark, dark, dark and funny, funny, funny." -- Sarasota Herald-Tribune "Hilarious yet poignant." -- Hartford Courant "Outlandishly funny." -- Syracuse Post-Standard "One of the antic Moore's funniest capers yet." -- Kirkus Reviews "Dizzyingly inventive and hypnotically engaging, A DIRTY JOB is . . . like no other book I've ever read." -- Gregory Maguire, author of Wicked and Son of a Witch "[A] wonderful, whacked-out yarn." -- Publishers Weekly "Moore's signature tossed-off humor is in full effect, and it's easy to care about his warm, lumpy, honest characters." -- Entertainment Weekly "To keep a straight face while reading this book, one would have to be dead already ... Grade: A." -- Rocky Mountain News "[Moore's] most speculative, tripped-out and deeply felt book to date." -- The Oregonian (Portland) "A bravura mix of the familiar and the hilariously original." -- Denver Post "[A DIRTY JOB] will keep a smile on your face long after you put it down." -- Cleveland Plain Dealer "Outstanding . . . Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷‍♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

  • [A] wonderful, whacked-out yarn........................

This darkly wacky take on the Grim Reaper from the author of BLOODSUCKING FIENDS features cameo appearances from several characters of that previous novel. Recent widower Charlie Asher, a sweet but somewhat wimpy worrywart, learns that he has been chosen to become a Death Merchant, one of many responsible for recovering the object from a dead person that holds that person's soul and passing that soul vessel on to another, living person. The job maintains a cosmic balance that prevents the forces of darkness from rising up and taking over the world. Unfortunately, someone (possibly Charlie) has already upset that balance. Size Length: 405 pages Height: 8 in. Width: 5.3 in. Thickness: 1 in. Weight: 12.8 oz. Publisher's Note Charlie Asher is a pretty normal guy with a normal life, married ...

  • A Quirky, Canny, Humorous Spin on Death & its Merchants

Protagonist Charlie Asher, a "Beta Male," is a naturally cautious and timid soul, content with life as the proprietor of a thrift store. What sustains him is his wife, Rachel, who he can hardly believe ever consented to be his partner. When Rachel delivers their first child, Sophie, Charlie's life seems complete...for a moment. While still adapting to his new life as a father, he loses Rachel to a "cerebral thromboembolism." Matters are complicated when Charlie sees Minty Fresh, a used-music dealer who moonlights as a "Death Merchant," collect Rachel's "soul vessel." And now Charlie, thanks to his ability to see Fresh snapping up his wife's soul in her favorite CD, has been tapped for the same job. It is THEN that the narrative becomes hilariously bizarre. The remainder of the novel ...

  • Christopher Moore's books are a must!

After reading Lamb by Christopher Moore I was hooked. What an imagination! The humor he imparts throughout his books is irreverant and hilarious and will leave you laughing out loud, provided you find down and dirty humor funny. All of his books are easy to read, engaging stories that tackle every subject from vampires to Jesus himself. A Dirty Job is a quick read about a man who finds, through twists and turns, that he has the powers to usher souls from one being to the next, a death merchant, as he calls himself. The classic struggle between good and evil is the dominant theme in this book, with the main character attempting to maintain the balance between the two before evil rises again. Several characters from two previous books make appearances in this book. At times sweet, at ...
