About this product

Product Information

The second novel in a dramatic trilogy set in eleventh-century France about the lives and loves of three daughters of the great Talmud scholar The engrossing historical series of three sisters living in eleventh-century Troyes, France, continues with the tale of Miriam, the lively and daring middle child of Salomon ben Isaac, the great Talmudic authority. Having no sons, he teaches his daughters the intricacies of Mishnah and Gemara in an era when educating women in Jewish scholarship was unheard of. His middle daughter, Miriam, is determined to bring new life safely into the Troyes Jewish community and becomes a midwife. As devoted as she is to her chosen path, she cannot foresee the ways in which she will be tested and how heavily she will need to rely on her faith. With Rashi's Daughters , author Maggie Anton brings the Talmud and eleventh-century France to vivid life and poignantly captures the struggles and triumphs of strong Jewish women.

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

  • Miriam - A Good Filler

I couldn't wait to get my hands on Maggie Anton's second book, Miriam, in the Rashi's Daughters trilogy. Johoved brought you right into the world of Jews in medieval France with a riveting story of the legendary scholar's oldest daughter. His second child, Miriam, seemed to be more of an interesting character with her profession in midwifery, and her foray into the world of ritual circumcision. Anton did a fantastic job with the character development, again. Through every part of the story you really felt you knew the players and their motivations, however, it was sad to see Miriam face one tragic situation after another. First the loss of the love of her life, then her marriage to a man who struggled with his own demons, and finally, Miriam's relegation to a life without true love. ...

  • Read this Author's Books! =)

I would highly recommend this author. When I read Rashi's Daughters: Jehoved I was entrhalled. I wanted to move in with the family. I have yet to read this book about Miriam but I have heard it is good too. I am looking forward to the 3rd book in the series being published.

  • Tragic stories don't always end in death, sometimes it is the beginning.

Maggie Anton's trilogy, Rashi's Daughters Books 1, 2 & 3 are great reads. In each volume Anton explores several Talmudic principles especially as they relate to women. Historic accuracy is highly regarded and fleshed out beautifully. This book, Miriam's story is the most tragic. It will break your heart and at the same time you will admire her great strength and courage. Anton's portrayal of determination in tragic home life is artfully done!
