    eTrex Legend C from Garmin

    I bought this handheld GPS unit primarily for Geocaching, and I was actually surprised by its feature. It has everything you may want from a handheld unit, with the exception of missing a port for an additional mini-USB card and so for additional memory. Despite that, it could hold enough data and maps if you need just a few areas (remember I only wanted it for geocaching). The size and compact-ness are great, and it's so light and easy to use that I didn't even open the instructions booklet...seriously, it's "plug-n-play"! One thing you may want to consider....it's been discontinued by Garmin....wonder why... I love it!

    Garmin eTrex maps out cycle trails in South Madagascar

    This order hasn't been my first, but I've had at least 8 Garmins. I distribute these to the Malagasy I work with to map out areas of crit.ical need in the drought ridden southern spiney forested area of Madagascar. We plot out sectors to reforest, draws that could be improved into water catchment basins. Areas of good speciation of the forest, other areas which are in need of restoration. The paths to get in there, the time the fish will be biting in Faux Cap, the phase of the moon, etc. It just snaps on the handlebar of any kind of bike and keeps pace with the rider at any speed. Rain or beating sun the Legend C has outlasted all of the earlier models of e-trex I've used. More durable. Let it serve you not vice versa

    Good unit but not the best unit

    I bought this GPS unit for geocaching. It is rugged enough that I can hand it to my seven year old daughter to use without worry. The color screen is nice, the battery life is great. There are a few small things about it that annoy me. 1) The is no magnetic compass so the compass in the unit is only accurate when moving. When just standing still it directs you in random directions. 2) The maps on this unit are lacking. As I use it for geocaching it is not a big deal but I would try using it in the car for street navigation.

    Would have bought more expensive!!!!

    This GPS works for my primary need which is marking underwater structure at my favorite lakes. On the screen the lakes dont show up unless it's a major body of water. The smallest local lake that shows up as water is 7,000 acres. I really wanted it for this and for traveling. I thought it had turn by turn in it but it doesnt. You can purchase City Navigator for about $100 to give it turn by turn. I don't like that it only has internal memory and wont except the Lake Hot Spots card(which I knew when I bought it.) It's a wonderful easy to see color screen and would be great for hiking. Had I been able to play with it before the purchase I would have spent the extra money to upgrade to a model that accepts SD cards and already has good basemaps and turn by turn!!!!

    Garmin (010-00358-00) GPS Receiv

    Mine is a factory refurbished unit and is like new. It seems to function properly, but is way too complicated for this old retiree. My children would probably have it mastered in minutes, but there are too many buttons and screens for me. I have only had GPS systems that come installed in new cars in the past, and I found them easy to operate compared to this device. The portability and flexibility seem to be the great features of this unit. Highly recommended to the techies.
