The film is silent, the audience is roaring....
I recently found that a movie, a childhood favorite called "The Golden Age of Comedy", has been released on DVD, bundled with another winner "When Comedy Was King". I immediately went to Movie Marz to get it. This is Robert Youngson's 1958 (some listings 1957) bittersweet-themed homage to silent film comedy, specifically the products of the Mack Sennett and Hal Roach studios of the 1920's. The typical Youngson MO is to pick an artist or a situation, show a bit of one or several snippets of several silent films of this artist or situation, and present it to you with saucy and often informative narration mixed with appropriate music. By the time Mr. Youngson got around to compiling his silent comedy tributes -- and, again, there are two bundled on this DVD -- not only were silents a ... Good advice. If you're a silent comedy fan, this is just sort of thing to trot out and show your uninitiate friends and relatives to let them know why you're such a fan...maybe they'll then let you bring out your dusty 16mm reel-to-reels of Snub Pollard and Billy Bevan. This DVD, and the two movies on it, is a delight and a must-have for anyone who enjoys a good laugh. -- puritan1955

Both of these movies "The Golden Age Of Comedy" and "When Comedy Was King" are gems and I thank you for sending it so quickly.
I've seen this movie before and it's very funny. I purchased it for a relative. I'm a big fan of silent movies especially all of these characters.
