    An ideal instrument mic

    This mic is a very dependable type, which I have used for years in television production, and now am currently using attached to reed and brass instruments for concert and recording uses. It is a professional workhorse in this context. I own several and use them successfully in this manner.

    Good wired lavalier with an awesome price

    If you are looking for a good alternative to an expensive wireless lavaliere system then this is for you. Even though you may think a cord can get in the way there is lots of easy work arounds and more importantly wired quality will never have as many problems as wireless. No matter how good the technology can get it wired will have less distortion then wireless. This microphone has a clear crisp sound but is different from the ECM-44 so weigh your options. It doesn’t come with a wind screen but if your outdoors a wired option may not be the best idea. As well the size of this lavaliere microphone is very nice and the look is clean cut. Finally the price point is amazing for what you get, for a wired lavaliere you cannot go wrong even if it’s used. If you want a more technical review ...

    Well built and durable. Still great sound despite it's age. Great volume vs dynamic mikes, but not too shrill like a condenser mike.

    It's No Lightweight

    It's part of Sony's venerable ECM line. No its not the audiophile's mic. But if you want solid quality interview sound in your kit grab a couple, especially those of studio use. Yes they've been replaced but their quality still makes the grade.

    Used with video production or for musical instruments.. a great mic!

    Sound quality is well balanced and full range; 30hz is great for deep bass recordings. Sony made a great mic here. Wired mics add complexity to a setup, this is where wireless mics trump wired, but sound quality is better with a wired mic.. no coding/decoding a carrier frequency. Design is 'lavalier' but the smallish ECM-55b works great for gathering 'wild' audio or use with musical instruments. All around a great mic.
