    Great debut album

    Stands up today. Haven't listened to it in years, it actually feels a little clunky but that's what makes it sooooo good! The energy and honesty is really refreshing.

    I miss ska!!!

    For those of you who long for new music from The English Beat, The Specials or General Public, meet Lily Allen. Although not nearly as frenetic as those earlier bands, Lily keeps the tradition alive with a souped up reggae beat accompanied by horns. What Lily has that those others may have lacked is a razor sharp tongue (or pen, in this case) and a sardonic wit. Smile (the big hit off of this) shows that side of her, but its not till you dive deep and hear Not Big where she unleashes all that she can deliver. Good stuff, and I'm glad to hear new people playing around with this genre. Go Lily!

    Good god man, what the hell is this?

    This was compared to Amy Winehouse????? Why on earth are the 2 mentioned in the same sentence????? I now see why the uproar over the 2 new artists. They should never be compared. Yeah, they're both British and female; that is where it ends. This CD sounds like The Spice Girls got together one night and recorded some covers of Gwen Stefani songs written by Gnarls Barkley (I like Gnarls Barkley, but Lily Allen isn't pulling off what they did). It's just not good music, lyrics, mixing or production. Worse still, every song on the album sounds about the same. Her "singing" is more of an attempt at talking over the music (can't really call it rap) and it just comes off as poetry (bad poetry) over drum machines and loops of boring, unemotional, uncreative, ...

    british sensation LILY ALLEN'S first full-length album

    i decided to buy this cd a couple of months ago. i subscribe to 'entertainment weekly' and was reading an article about her that intrigued me... i caught her performing her hits "smile," and "LDN," on saturday night live and was hooked. this girl had the singing voice like an innocent little church girl, but her words were that of a drunken sailor. every song she has written tells a new story. i like the jazz and hip hop flavor. i found myself laughing out loud at life's similarities. i love the way she realizes that women don't have to look or act hardcore to say what they are feeling. not everday is beautiful, you can say it, sing it, act it, whatever, but you can still be beautiful if you want. can't wait for the next album... ;)

    Alright, Still; Better Than Alright.

    I had heard a few songs by Lily Allen and happened to really enjoy them. So I purchased one of her CD's (Alright, Still) a few days ago. I popped this CD in and song after song, the same excellent quality. She isn't afraid to go off the main road of typical music and take pride in her work. It's hard to pin a genre on this CD. It takes on Hip-hop, Rap, Pop, and possible a few others I've failed to mention. If you like different, funky, funny, and original music. I'd suggest checking it out!
