About this product

Product Information

Released in 2004 by Polyphony Digital, "Gran Turismo 4" pushed the PlayStation 2 to its limits. In fact, this PS2 game is one of only four games capable of outputting in 1080i resolution. That bump in resolution makes every car in this game come alive. From the rubber of the cars to the shine of the paint, these vehicles are perfect replicas of the real thing. In fact, each vehicle in the game sports over 5,000 polygons. The graphics engine also doubles as a more powerful physics engine as well. Barriers now slow your car down immensely while drafting becomes a legitimate tactic. Not only is this engine capable of displaying many cars on the screen, but it also features smooth gameplay that limits slowdown and screen flicker."Gran Turismo 4" supports widescreen gaming in addition to a 1080i resolution. If you have additional PlayStation 2 systems and multiple screens, you can create a multiscreen setup. With three screens on all sides of you, "Gran Turismo 4" can replicate what it's like to be inside of a real car. This game also offers support for steering wheels, including those from GT and Logitech. You'll naturally want to take photos of how good your vehicles look, and you can do just that in Photo Mode. You can then transfer these photos to a USB drive to store and share on your PC.The goal of "Gran Turismo 4" is a simple one: win races and collect vehicles. With over 700 vehicles in the title, it's likely that your favorite car is present. These cars span an array of manufacturers, including Mitsubishi, Mazda, and Nissan. This Gran Turismo entry was the first to feature pickup trucks as part of its roster of vehicles. Nestled among the sports cars are also rally cars, SUVs, and F1 vehicles. As a simulation race game, each car feels realistic. As you progress and win more races in this PS2 title, you'll unlock new and faster vehicles. You can test your skills with the License Tests and receive ratings on how well you drive. You'll try to beat the clock in the Time Attack mode. The Race game mode has you racing against other drivers to win and cross the finish line first. New to this title are the Driving Missions, which task you with the challenge of being able to win races using a particular technique. These missions are an excellent way to master the game's new features, such as drafting. This Gran Turismo entry features over 50 tracks on which to compete. You'll race on real-world tracks, including the Suzuka Circuit, the Tsukuba Circuit, the Twin Ring Motegi, and the Circuit de la Sarthe. You'll also race on tracks created specifically for this title based on real-world locations. Some of these tracks include the Grand Canyon, the Vegas Strip, and the streets of New York. This Gran Turismo title is a love letter to fans of fast vehicles.

    It's a nice game

Love this game my only issiue is that it looks better on 480P then it does on 1080i, weird right? But yeah, I have the official PlayStation 3 component cables that work with both the ps2 and ps3 and have been enjoying other games in 480P. Other then that, the game play is awesome! On this game pushing the Triangle and X button at the same time to activate the progressive scan is not necessary as you can change that in the picture settings within the game.

  • different, but good

After long arduous days of the relative ease of GT3, GT4 has something different to offer. The new courses and cars are great. It's interesting to watch certain Gran Prix's on TV and recognize how well the real courses are depicted in this game... way more so than in GT3. The driving takes a little getting used to, but is fun when you get the hang of it. The cars lean alot on the corners and pitch when slowing or accelerating... which is cool! I appreciate the realness that this game tries to deliver as far as driving feel, but I enjoyed GT3 for it's pure video-game-ness. I continue to play both, because I find both so different. If you were good at GT3, you may not be at GT4 and might just get frustrated with it because the car handling is so different (which is why my ...

  • Get in, sit down, shut up and hold on!

Once again, the Gran Turismo series delivers with GT4. The graphics are smoother than ever. With a large enough TV screen, you may even experience the physical effects of motion! Some of the positive points: - A vast selection of cars to choose from - More modifications than before, including a rear wing on most models - More tracks with far more variety - Ability to transfer some of your licenses and credits from GT3 Some of the negative points: - You still can't custom paint the cars - If you custom mod your car through an aftermarket shop, the finished car doesn't really reflect it. No graphics, names, or noticeable handling differences to set it apart from getting upgrades at the dealership - A lot of really worthless concept and antique vehicles were ...

  • Racing old school

Challenging races, interesting sound track except the dang Opera at the opening clip. Cars are realistic even for older graphics, driving is challenging yet realistic, the turning is a little jerky for a real car though and not fluid like newer games. Plenty of cars to choose from. No sim damage but no big loss there.

  • Good game, could have better features.

Great game, physics are not realistic enough, crashes are awful, cars just bounce off each other. This is a great arcade style game, but for a simulator, I would not recommend it. Forza Motorsport for XBOX is a much better game. GranTurismo has been a favorite racing game for many years, Though GT4 lacks the real feel. Except for a much better car selection in GT4, I would actually prefer GT3, GT2 was a great PS1 game and the physics were good for that era. GT4 did not live up to my expectations of the GranTurismo legacy.
