About this product

Product Information

Featuring an all-new cover, New York Times bestseller Bill Bryson's irrevent and hilarious journey through the beloved island nation he called home for two decades. From Downing Street to Loch Ness, this is a delightful look at the United Kingdom. Before New York Times bestselling author Bill Bryson wrote The Road to Little Dribbling , he took this delightfully irreverent jaunt around the unparalleled floating nation of Great Britain, which has produced zebra crossings, Shakespeare, Twiggie Winkie's Farm, and places with names like Farleigh Wallop and Titsey.

  • Wonderful read -- absolutely a masterpiece!

I have read this book at least a dozen times, and it never fails to make me laugh out loud. Bryson has a droll, self-deprecating humor that hits me where it counts each and every time. In addition, he has a wonderful use of language to bring anyplace he's been to to life with a richness and luster seldom seen outside an album of photographs. I have purchased his books in quantity over the years to share with others, and have yet to meet someone who doesn't fall in love with him the way that I did. He's definitely on the list of Top Ten People I would Like to Share a Latte With.

  • Notes from a Small Island by Bill Bryson (1997)

I heard it was a good book from my friend In Ennis Ireland and I thought it would be a book to read and aquire insight on what to see an not to see in Britian you can spend a lot of time traveling and using up precious vacation time go to places that is not worth your time. This book of Mr. Bryson's was fantastic, I have made a list of things to see when I visit England. Recomended to the traveler an to the avid reader for humor and of content.

  • Excellent book!

This is an excellent book. I enjoy all of Bryson's works as they are humorous- to the point that you will often find yourself laughing aloud- as well as educational. Bryson is a fantastic story teller. I have read nearly all of his works (most more than once) and I never tire of them. If you are looking for a glimpse of life in Britain or just an entertaining read, this book will suit the bill.

  • Good read!

    Good book, humorous travel narrative.

  • Notes from a Small Island

As I have been reading this book I have had tears in my eyes, alternately from laughing and feeling moved by the love the author and I share for the UK. Some familiarity with British history and architecture is helpful to the enjoyment of the book, but the humor comes through clearly.
