About this product

Product Information

For some time now, writer-actor-performance artist Spalding Gray has been carrying around with him a monster: a manuscript of a novel called Impossible Vacation, a book that at last sighting weighed in at about 1,800 pages. Monster in a Box is a guided tour between the stations of his writing block, which include a field trip to Nicaragua, a disastrous guest appearance at the Moscow film festival, and a stint in Los Angeles hunting down the fabled few who have never written a screenplay. Hilarious and poignant, Monster in a Box is further proof that Gray has not only captured the dangerous spirit of our age but swallowed it whole.

Reviews
"Gray fishes up so much of the glory and chaos of our times....Talking about himself -- with candor, humor, imagination -- he ends up talking about all of us." -- Washington Post "Gray's deepest, most self-questioning piece...wildly, unpredictably witty, wide-ranging and quirky, but also sneakily profound. -- Newsday "Spalding Gray may be the nation's outstanding storyteller. He has never been better." -- Los Angeles Times "[Gray is] the perfect raconteur for our times." -- New York Magazine

Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷‍♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

The very wonderful spalding Gray! Damn him for dying....anyway this is a very funny account of writing his nagging novel "Impossible Vacation", which was absolutely becoming A Monster in a box! I really fell for his work as an actor, but when I saw the film version of Monster in a Box...well he was funny and charismatic, he could drawn you in. I was truely saddened when I heard of his death. This book is funny with sad under tones, or maybe the reverse is more so. Read it.

  • Monster in a Box-book

I have always enjoyed books, moivies, and monologues with/ by Spalding Gray. I miss him, terribly. He was excellent in "True Stories", with David Bryne. He had so much talent, in many ways. It was heartbreaking to hear of his passing.
