"A modern-day Jane Austen." -- Vanity Fair "What kind of self-described 'nice girl' would sleep with her best friend's fiancé? One who's seriously flawed, like this delightful debut novel's heroine, but also surprisingly winning and real." -- Glamour "This page-turning, heartbreakingly honest debut...deftly depicts the hopeful hearts behind an unsympathetic situation." -- Entertainment Weekly "Both hilarious and thoughtfully written, resisting the frequent tendency of first-time novelists to make their characters and situations a little too black-and-white. • Something GREAT about Something Borrowed

I recently read Something Borrowed on the advice of my sister. As an avid 'chick lit' reader, I have to say I absolutely LOVED this book as well as it's follow up (which I also reviewed) Something Blue! This book keeps you reading until the very end. It is easy to relate to Rachel and Darcy if you have ever had a best friend. They make you laugh and cry alike throught the course of the book. This book also has a few unexpected twists that will leave you wondering 'why didn't I see that coming?' Overall a great read! Definitely pick this up in conjunction with Something Blue for a night of great reading. I really love Emily's style of writing. She has this quality of making each page entertaining, unlike so many authors today. Her characters and situations are real and are easy to ...

  • What is it like to be the "other woman?"

Okay, so I messed up. I read "Something Blue" first, not realizing it is the follow-up to "Something Borrowed." It's funny though--I don't regret reading these backwards. I didn't hate Darcy as much as I probably would have and knowing a bit of their history already and Darcy's point of view really helped me to understand Rachel. Rachel is the goody two-shoes, the dowdy best friend of the stunning Darcy, and is unwittingly in love with Darcy's fiance, Dex. You travel with Rachel and her complex emotions. Emily Giffin is a very talented writer, there is no doubt about that. I highly recommend this book; however, make sure you have both! And I may even suggest reading "Something Blue" first like I did.

  • A Great Read!

I purchased "Something Borrowed" on a whim and enjoyed every page of it. Anyone who has ever had a childhood best friend (or even if you haven't), you will find this book quite the page turner. It's good for adults of all ages. When I was finished, I passed it on to my daughter in-law who then passed it on to her younger sister and everyone enjoyed has it! It's about friendship, love, life, disappointments etc., all from the perspective of the "maid of honor." After you have finished and wished there was more.....there is. Now, you have to purchase "Something Blue."!! I can't wait to see what you think of these two wonderfully entertaining books!

  • Great Chick Lit!

Awesome book, a must read! A definte page turner, with a great follow up book: Something Blue (also a must read). Author also wrote Baby Proof which is equally as good, just with all different characters!
