About this product

Product Information

The sequel to 1998's best-selling Nintendo 64 snowboarding title features additional courses and characters to complement the visual enhancements offered by the 128-bit GameCube. As in the original, the game is played from a third-person view behind the character as he or she races down the powdery slope. Returning boarders Akari Hayami and Ricky Winterborn are joined by a new cast of male and female athletes, each individually rated in areas such as power, balance, and technique.

Realistic stunts such as spins, flips, and grabs can be performed in midair, while grinds are possible on objects like tree branches. Each course takes place on a different mountain at various times of day and offers multiple shortcuts to the finish. Three modes of play include Downhill, Slalom, and Trick Attack. Downhill offers competition against a series of computer opponents or up to three other friends simultaneously. Varying weather and snow conditions present distinct challenges, perhaps none more so than the titular avalanche, which forces players to outrun the landslide or be swept up in its power.

Slalom has players attempting to speed through colored flags as they make their way down the steep courses as quickly as possible, with penalties given for each missed gate along the run. Trick Attack challenges players to rack up as high a score as possible while weaving across various half-pipes and stunt-oriented courses. As in the original 1080°, licensed sports apparel and equipment for each selectable character can be unlocked as the game progresses. High scores, unlocked features, and game progress can all be saved to memory card.

    A cheap GameCube classic

This is a great Nintendo developed game. It's got plenty of action, and the music is great. The visuals are awesome, as are the tracks with grinds and alternate paths here and there. There's multiplayer, which is a plus. Overall, this game is entertaining, although less than more popular games, but I still consider it a classic. One of the nicest things about this game is that you can find it on eBay for pretty cheap, compared to the more popular games.

  • 1080; Avalanche (Game Cube, 2003)

Most of Nintendo's GameCube games this year have been new installments in its established franchises. A number of them have also been racing games, and 1080 Avalanche falls into this particular subcategory, alongside the previously released F-Zero GX, Kirby Air Ride, and Mario Kart: Double Dash!! One of the first games unveiled for the GameCube even prior to the system's release, 1080 Avalanche is the sequel to 1998's excellent Nintendo 64 snowboarding game 1080 Snowboarding, but this new game seems unlikely to enjoy its predecessor's popularity. 1080 Avalanche delivers a sometimes thrilling sensation of speed and features a number of nice touches not found in other snowboarding games on the market, but it has very limited lasting value in its single-player mode, and the split-screen ...

  • 1080 Avalanche is Smashing!

I like the sheer speed of it and I love outrunning the AVALANCHE! It looks like you are really moving at the speed shown on screen, and you can do multiple stunts and tricks even in a single jump! You have many alternate routes and shortcuts to follow and different "runs" to choose from. It accomodates 4 players simultaneously or you can race against computer opponents in tournaments. You can choose to race as one of 5 characters, male or female, who have different strengths and weaknesses, and you can unlock different snowboards and costumes and alter egos of the characters as you progress. I like taking shortcuts through buildings and restaurants and knocking down furniture and the patio railing and jumping down to the next level! The only thing I dislike about it is that some ...

  • Great!

This game was fun to play, but when you get to the expert and extreme pack, you will rage at one point. Other than that, I recommend this game as one of your first GameCube games. This game took me three days to finish, and the manuals and disc were in high condition with no problems.

  • This game is one of the best snowboarding games

This game is one of the best games for snowboarding. I have huge gamers in the house and went through the game. It's really not that hard and easy to learn. Awesome graphics and music. Collect all the golden coins in Time Trial mode and you unlock the best and fastest board ever. The last board to unlock is none other than the Mario board. With that board I took it to Trick Attack mode and my highest score was over 102,000 points. Insane. I've had alot of practice with this game and it's one of the best. The mario board is the one you want to unlock for sure. Really I have no dislikes about it, but that's just me.
