About this product

Product Information

One of the more popular -- and certainly more creative -- racing titles to hit the arcades during 1999 is Crazy Taxi, an offbeat game wherein the goal is to take various passengers to their destinations as fast as possible. The gameplay is open-ended: you decide who you want to pick up based on the waiting passengers' fare levels, which are indicated by differently colored dollar signs over their heads.

Your job is to do anything you can -- including driving down sidewalks and cutting off other cars -- to get your passengers where they want to go as quickly as possible. Destinations can include such real world places as Tower Records and Pizza Hut. An overhead arrow points in the general direction you should go.

In this port for the Sega Dreamcast, which uses the same 3D "Naomi" chip technology as many of Sega's arcade games, you can pick from the same assortment of cabbies to control: Axel, an all-around average guy; B.D. Joe, whose car is really fast but lacks traction on non-paved surfaces; Gena, who can accelerate and brake with the best of them; and Gus, whose car is the opposite of B.D. Joe's. The music in the Arcade version, which was supplied by the bands Bad Religion and The Offspring, is the same here, as are many of the environments.

You race against the clock the entire time, and your customers give you tips for doing crazy stunts. The crazier the stunts the more money for you. At the end of the game, you receive a license that rates your level of craziness. The aim here is to be as crazy as possible.

For the home version, the developers at Sega's AM3 have thrown in more cars to unlock, such as a pedal taxi. They've also created a new course (which is also set in San Francisco) as well as a series of mini-games that you can play in order to unlock hidden cars. There are nine mini-games in all, each more difficult than the last.

The game will work with the Dreamcast steering wheel, and force feedback adds a real jolt to the bumps and jumps. Gamers with a Visual Memory Unit can use it to save their data and customized options.

  • Crazy Taxi (Sega Dreamcast) Review

This game is really fun, even though it seems simple at first. It has tons of hidden strategies that the average player wouldn't figure out, plus there are lots of combos you can do with your cab, like the Crazy Dash or the Crazy Drift. There are 5 drivers, and each one's cab controls differently. Also, you can unlock a rickshaw that they can drive. The graphics were great for when it came out. The only downside to this game is that it gets old fast. There is no story mode, there is just an "Arcade" mode and an "Original" mode, both the exact same game, just different maps. To try to help the problem, Crazy Taxi has something called Crazy Box, where you do themed objectives one by one and when you complete a set you recieve an unlockable. This game is an absolute must for anyone with a ...

  • Fun as long as you don't crash, not good for people with motion sickness

Pick up and drop off crazy cab riders for madd skrillaz. You're allowed to charge fare after your passenger has literally hung on by one hand. The gameplay is pretty good, just about as good as the arcade machine. You slow down when you crash which can be kinda discouraging for beginner players. The map is alright, not the best, but not the worst. It's really small compared to the map in other open world driving games.

  • If you are looking for a fun game to spend your time on, look elsewhere.

When I bought this game I had the basic understanding that it was a fast paced game were you get people from point A to point B under a time limit. Little did I know that was all the game was. There is no story, no campaign mode, no multiplayer, nothing to achieve, and no tutorial. Driving is actually pretty slow and acceleration takes forever making it a stab to the flow of the game play every time you bump into something. The extra controls are confusing to use and not well explained anywhere throughout the game. One good thing about this game would have to be the short but good list of songs by The Offspring witch really brings you back to the early 2000s. This game could have been redeemable with something like a money, car upgrade system, multiplayer aspect, or SOMETHING, ...

  • Good CRAAAAAZY fun for everyone to enjoy, great classic

Crazy Taxi was originally a game that was produced for an arcade cabinet a year before and was an excellent quality game Back in 2000 when i heard that crazy taxi was going to be released on the dreamcast i was happy to see this game being released for the home consoles. This version didn't knock down the gameplay of this wild and crazy game that was release before. The gameplay behind this game is that you are a taxi driver and have to pick out customers and take them to their destination as quickly as posible before the timer runs out and keep picking up customers to rank up your score This may seem a little to simple but you will be jumping over buildings, driving down the wrong side of the street, jumping through parks and other things to get there as quickly as ...
