    A Fine Collection

    This is a nice sampling from Ladysmith's time with Warner Brothers. It really showcases the group's transition from traditional Zulu singing to the more choral sound they have today. The lead and founder, Joseph Shabalala, had a spiritual awakening and after a day of fasting, became a Christian. In doing this, he felt the music was missing something and began adding choral elements from the Christian church. So towards the end of the cd, there is even some instrumentation. Personally, I prefer the traditional Zulu sound and find their other greatest hits cd more enjoyable (the cover is of them all together). But still, the beautiful version of Amazing Grace with Paul Simon, among others, is worth hearing and I am not sorry to have this in my collection.
