About this product
Product Information
The story has a modern setting, and is based around the central character, Aggie Lichen. Joining her in the story are her two friends Bessie and Fred, and Fred's younger brother Gilbert. Aggie's home is Incisorton, a town in Pilpsville, where she lives with Ma and Pa, older brother Albert and her annoying younger sister, Myrtle, who she lovingly refers to as 'Bugface'. She goes to school, is fashion conscious, streetwise and faces the same dilemmas as any other normal thirteen year old except Aggie Lichen is pilp collector. A collector of pilps - teeth! Yes, Aggie Lichen is what humans call a 'tooth fairy'. From their land where the two suns shine, the pilp collectors slip into the human world to collect pilps each nightsgritch - pilp collecting evenings. When they return they take the pilps to an energy plant and exchange them for the local currency - pilp credits. Magic fairy dust is bought with the credits and is left by the pilp collectors under the pillows of pilp donors - humans call them children. The dust turns to human money overnight. The story is told from Aggie's perspective, and the main story centres around a bright, fast moving, mysterious light that forces pilp collectors to panic and drop their pilp sacks. Is the light, as described by its many victims, a flying glow worm/fluorescent dragonfly/bad-tempered bluebottle/angry firefly? Or, as Aggie suspects, is there more to it? As she and her friends unravel the mystery of the light, they find that there is a more threatening problem at hand - the selling of the energy plant to the laziest pilp collector ever! The gang have only thirty days to prevent the sale and save the community. It is a race against time and to make matters worse, Aggie suspects that her brother is behind it all and convinces herself that all the evidence points directly at him. She becomes torn between her loyalty to her brother and her duty to the community. As the story unfolds, we watch as Aggie deals bravely with the local bully, prevents an invasion of magic dust seeking sprites, takes cover as another tooth fairy is turned into a putrid smell by the healer and reluctantly tracks her brother's movement into the hell hole known as Grublin City. And who said tooth fairies were twee ...
