Inflatable Kayak Review
These boats are a good value if you need to pack in or deflate for storage. The material is a little light for heavy use. Not like the Seveylor Rafts I am accustomed to. However I don't think you will be disappointed. I would recommend them for smooth water and lakes. The paddle holder brackets are nice but a little light weight for dry storage propped up, e.g. they hold the paddle fine horizontally on the boat but not designed for any pressure if the boat is out of the water vertical. Paddles are nice. Pump is the standard two way that deflates and works fine with all adapters. Pretty much bullet proof. Probably not going to hold up on sharp rocks so it is not for the rapids. Nice design and very stable. I am at 235# and they do just fine for me with a 400# rating. Pumping is ... These boats are a good value if you need to pack in or deflate for storage. After using this kayak on Lake Tahoe for about ten hours this past week, I am absolutely thrilled with it. It is very lightweight but seems to be made of tough materials. One can carry it in the included backpack, or if you are flying, it fits well into a standard-size suitcase, including the paddle which breaks down into five parts. The paddle is sturdy and is quickly assembled. The connectors form handgrips that make it easy to handle. The paddle flaps are a little small but certainly adequate. Make sure you fasten the parts together tightly so they don't loosen and come apart. The pump is amazing; it works quickly and easily and not only inflates but also deflates, which is much easier and quicker than trying to squeeze the air out yourself. The backpack and inflatable backrest combine to make the most comfortable seat I have ever experienced in a kayak or canoe. I am 71 and occasionally have a little lower back pain, but this felt great. At 6'1" and 200 pounds, I had plenty of legroom in this kayak. The first time I used this kayak, the weather was rather windy and the whitecaps on Lake Tahoe made me a little nervous. But i was amazed at how well it rides the waves, and within a short time I was very much at home in big waves and even enjoyed them. Being fairly wide, it is quite stable and is very easy to get in and out of, more so than hard kayaks and canoes. It has small rudders on the front and on the back that add about the right degree of stability. If they were bigger the kayak would be more stable but less maneuverable; if they were smaller it would be more maneuverable but less stable. So far I have used this kayak only on a lake. On a stream or fast-moving river I would be concerned about hitting submerged branches and rocks that might puncture it. The material seems strong, especially the underside, but I wouldn't want to tempt fate. Because there are several inflatable chambers, one puncture shouldn't sink the kayak. A small repair kit is included, and something like flextape might also do the job. The ad says it can be assembled in 5 minutes. The first time, using the instructions, it took me about an hour, which says more about me than about the kayak. The second time it took about 15 minutes, and shorter thereafter. I don't know if I'll ever break the 5-minute time, but it is definitely foreseeable. Renting a kayak at Lake Tahoe costs $20 per hour. In three days this kayak has more than paid for itself, and I love being able to stay out on the lake as long as I want to and not worry whether I'll be charged an extra $20 if I stay out 61 minutes. One suggestion for the manufacturer, who has thought of almost everything: the handles on the front and back are most helpful, but a similar handle on the side would make it easier to carry while inflated. In summary: I love this kayak and am very glad I bought it!
