Excellent, up-to-date resource
If you collect Japanese revenue stamps, this is an invaluable resource. Author Steve Hasegawa has compiled a tremendous amount of information in this latest edition. The book is in Japanese, so if you want detail on the issues - some knowledge of Japanese is necessary. I can read Japanese at about a fifth grade level, and can understand everything I need. (Alternately, you can use Google Translate and the camera function to do a live translation - although I have found Google Translate to be only mediocre with Japanese-to-English translation.) Mr. Hasegawa has included all the major revenues in this volume, and varieties as well. He also covers other items such as some early imperial Telegraph stamps (but not all), official seals, etc. The Seventh Edition (2019) hasn't added too ... A simple rule of thunb I use for a rough conversion from ¥ -> $ (US) is to just divide the Japanese value by 100... so the prices are easy to convert on the fly. This is a very well-written, well-researched catalogue which is the heir to Mitsuko Shimomura's 1981 revenue catalogue. Shimomura's work is out-of-print, but in English as well as Japanese - so if you can still find one, and require English, that may be for you. (John Barefoot's excellent "South East Asia Revenues" includes Japan as well but not as much detail as the Japanese works.) If you're comfortable viewing the beautiful color illustrations in Mr. Hasegawa's catalogue and gleaning whatever information you need - such as year, value, catalogue number, perf, etc - then Hasegawa's catalogue will work for you. I give it five stars out of five.
