  • Timeless book to learn about Fred Harvey and the women who made it great

When I went out to Arizona for the first time in 2012 I became interested in learning all about Fred Harvey the man, the Harvey Houses that were located at most of the train stations back in that time and about the Harvey girls themselves who made a good living working for Fred Harvey the company. This book gives you a great understanding of all those topics. These were outstanding and in some cases also courageous women for that time period. What a shame it all came to an end as the railroads got replaced by automobiles and airplanes as the preferred mode of travel. A great book for history lovers and fans of the railroad's golden era. I would highly recommend for high school aged students and on up.

  • The Harvey Girls

I was interested in learning more about Fred Harvey and the relationship that linked him to the West. This book contains many interesting interviews with retired employees, etc. and a real insight into the women who ventured West in and around the turn of the century. I would strongly recommend this book.
