About this product

Product Information

This best-selling text is a succinct guide to thinking critically and writing precisely about film. Both an introduction to film study and a practical writing guide, this brief text introduces students to film terms and the major film theories, enabling them to write more critically. With numerous student and professional examples along the way, this engaging and practical guide progresses from taking notes and writing first drafts to creating polished essays and comprehensive research projects. Moving from movie reviews to theoretical and critical essays, the text demonstrates how an analysis of a film becomes more subtle and rigorous as part of a compositional process.

  • A Great Book About Film

I had to purchase this book for a film class, and do not mind having to read it. Corrigan does a wonderful job tying in the explanations of his chapters with eloquent student examples and well known movie reviews. The examples included in tis book comprehensive and interesting. "A Short Guide to Writing About Film" is definitely a book I might read even if I did not have to for a class.

  • Not too helpful.

If you really don't know how to write a paper, AT ALL, I'd recommend this book. If you know anything at all about film or have written a paper, you might want something a litte more advanced. The book is very short, so it doesn't go into depth about anything, yet is very slow paced (it starts off with an essay "why analyze film?") I wish I had saved my money instead of purchasing this book, but atleast this was cheap.

  • Interesting

This book tells you a lot about the film making process, and is good for any intro to film class. It goes from the very basic to the more complex processes of film and film making. Anyone interested in film making would definitely benefit from it.

  • good experience

I had to buy this book for a class, but found it to be interesting and informative. I would read parts of it for fun.
