About this product

Product Information

With more than 1 million copies sold worldwide, The Elements is the most entertaining, comprehensive, and visually arresting book on all 118 elements in the periodic table. Includes a poster of Theodore Gray's iconic photographic periodic table of the elements! Based on seven years of research and photography by Theodore Gray and Nick Mann, The Elements presents the most complete and visually arresting representation available to the naked eye of every atom in the universe. Organized sequentially by atomic number, every element is visualized by a big beautiful photograph that most closely represents it in its purest form. Several additional photographs show each element in slightly altered forms or as used in various practical ways. Also included are fascinating stories of the elements, told in Theo Grays inimitable style, as well as data on the properties of each, including atomic number, atomic symbol, atomic weight, density, atomic radius, as well as scales for electron filling order, state of matter, and an atomic emission spectrum. This work of solid science and stunning artistic photographs is the perfect gift book for every sentient creature in the universe.

  • A keeper

The photos are beautiful and the text gives bites of information that are easy to read in short sittings. We homeschool, and although my child hasn't gravitated to the book and read it on her own, I still use 3 of Theo Gray's books (this one, plus "Molecules" and " Reactions ") in two ways: I read some of the funny and/or clear explanations, or use the wonderful illustrations, as a supplement to my child's 7th-grade science textbook; and I will read parts of them out loud as evening reading, since some of the text conveys the pure beauty and wonder of chemistry. The indexes are good, so I've been able to go back and find the excerpts I'm looking for.

  • He's got great Chemistry!

Photos are absolutely amazing! Text is fun and informative; Gray has done a good job of making chemistry appealing to a broad audience. I bought this book for my 10 year old son who has just gotten really curious about chemistry. The beginning of the book was a REALLY great introduction to the periodic table for him (and a great refresher for anyone else), especially since it is nicely color-coded and the information is presented in a concise, understandable manner. Beyond that, each element is showcased on a double page spread with examples of how it is relevant in our lives. We're glad Gray decided to share his knowledge and passion for chemistry!

  • The elements

Very reader friendly, even those not well versed in the periodic table. Great pictures and applications to daily life. Great price!

  • Great Book

Great introduction to the elements. The explanation of the practical uses of each element kept my kids reading. My kids did not want to put this book down. I highly recomend this book!!!
