About this product

Product Information

"Erotic and absorbing...Written with startling power."-- The New York Times Book Review Nan King, an oyster girl, is captivated by the music hall phenomenon Kitty Butler, a male impersonator extraordinaire treading the boards in Canterbury. Through a friend at the box office, Nan manages to visit all her shows and finally meet her heroine. Soon after, she becomes Kitty's dresser and the two head for the bright lights of Leicester Square where they begin a glittering career as music-hall stars in an all-singing and dancing double act. At the same time, behind closed doors, they admit their attraction to each other and their affair begins.

I’m really not able to rate this item because they decided to cancel my purchase after I waited for two weeks without a shipping confirmation from anyone but I hope you learn as we all know that is part of life plus I appreciate the immediate refund of my full purchase amount which was satisfaction enough for me and I hope you continue to move forward as I continue to do so, Thanks Again

  • Wow...

Great book for book clubs. Not for the uptight, narrow minded. Set in the late 1800's. A raw perspective of toms. A tender, loving, unique story of an alternative life.

  • fantastic storytelling, beautifully written

love this book, ny times notable book. Waters is an exquisite writer, beautiful description--you want to savour every word. It is impossible to put down.

  • the most beautiful love story

Th emost beautiful love story I have ever read. I visit this story so much ,I HAD to buy it, so as to add it to my ownpersonal library. LOVE IT!!

  • Very bad book which was unbelievable

a horrible story with no realistic plot and unbelievable characters. It is about a young women finding herself sexually but her family and the rest of the supporting cast don't fit their century and there is no conflict whatsoever. Avoid like the plague
