About this product

Product Information

Based on the diaries Susan Branch has kept since she was in her twenties, The Fairy Tale Girl is an illustrated memoir, designed in Susan's trademark style with original watercolors and personal photographs. The Fairy Tale Girl is an ages-old story of youth, innocence, love (and loss), grief, discovery, friendship, and magic that begins in a geranium-colored house in California and ends up, like any good fairy tale, on the right side of the rabbit hole. As we've heard so many times, it's not the destination, it's the journey. So, journey back to the olden days with Susan, to the 1950s and 60's, to the land of Happily Ever After, where men were men and girls were girls (who just wanted to have fun), and bring a hankie 'cause we think you might need it. Susan began writing The Fairy Tale Girl as one volume, but by the time she put in all the details, and her art and photographs, it was almost 700 pages, too big, so she decided to turn it into two books. The second book will be coming early next year, and will be called Martha's Vineyard, Isle of Dreams. Both The Fairy Tale Girl and Martha's Vineyard, Isle of Dreams (publication date May 2016) are prequels to Susan's last book, A Fine Romance - Falling in Love with the English Countryside (2013).

    Wonderfully enjoyable reading .....

I am a non-fiction reader, mostly biographies and auto- biographies. Susan Branch's books are filled with her watercolor art, which adds a sweet touch, yet I just really would have loved this even without her art. And her other book about arriving in Martha's Vineyard, and her early life there, I loved dearly, too. In fact, I read the latter first, and then promptly bought copies of it for my nieces. If I hadn't already over-bought in early Christmas shopping for my nieces, I would buy The Fairy Tale Girl for them too. Maybe I will next year, if they don't buy it themselves.

  • You get hooked and want to more!

Read the first one in the trilogy and was not disappointed in the second book. Can not wait for the third! Susan writes her books like you are having a cup of tea with a good friend ,meaning you are really interested in what she is telling you. The biggest bonus is her beautiful drawings scattered about in good taste. Her stories are well executed in her own words .Not overly edited , refreshing read.

  • Fun and interesting

Loved reading this book, I couldn't put it down and read it in two days. I will go back and read it again and enjoy the artwork within this lovely book. It is part of a two book series, and now I cannot wait until next spring to get the other book. I love all things Susan Branch and this book does not disappoint!

  • Susan branch , joyful fast easy reading

This book was reccomended by a blogger that I follow on IG. Susan branch writes in a familiar easy way. The way you might talk with your sisters or cousins or friends. Her books are written, in my opinion, relateable to women raised in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s. I really enjoyed this book bc its clean, wholesome, well written. As a bonus her own watercolor illustrations add a special touch to the writing. I have ordered the next 2 books that follow "The Fairytale Girl".

  • Entertaining and Pretty

While reading this book I was inspired to perfect my hobbies such as cooking, crafting, sewing, art and so on. I enjoyed reading about the life of the author; I also delighted in how the author went through painful times, but still seemed to be grateful for all of her situations she experienced.
