About this product

Product Information

Emma , first published in 1816, was written when Jane Austen was at the height of her powers. In a novel remarkable for its sparkling wit and modernity, Austen presents readers with two of literature's greatest comic creations-the eccentric Mr. Woodhouse and that quintessential bore, Miss Bates. Here, too, we have what may well be Jane Austen's most profound characterization- the witty, imaginative, self-deluded Emma, a heroine the author declared "no one but myself will much like," but who has been much loved by generations of readers. Delightfully funny, full of rich irony, Emma is regarded as one of Jane Austen's finest achievements.

  • Jane Austen

I bought this book because it was a selection for a book club that I am in. I liked the book, however, it is a little difficult to read. I am a busy mom so I have to read the book in small increments and am constantly starting and stopping reading. It's not an easy book to put down and then pick back up again without getting a little lost. There are a lot of characters and you have to pay close attention or you'll get lost on who's who. It was also written in the last 1800's so you have to keep that in mind when reading because a lot has changed since then. Overall, I liked it and would recommend it (if you've got long periods of time to read!!)

  • Jane Austen's emma

I love romantic books. Anything by Jane Austen is inclined to be romantic. Since it's wriiten in the 1800's it may be hard to understand what the author is trying to convey because the prose or language used then is quite different from our own today. I think that's one of the reasons I love it soo much, because along with the story I get to glimpse the time period in which she wrote and it's authentic. I could write a story that is supposed to be an early 19th century piece and I would have to research everything about that time period and would still make mistakes. It makes it more interesting to know that she was a real person from the early 1800's who very probably wrote about friends or acquaintances she knew.

  • It's a classic

It's a classic. If you enjoy reading classic literature, you will enjoy this Jane Austen novel. I bought this because my book club was reading it. It's a bit wordy and takes a bit of time to get used the wording and character names (I made a cheat sheet, my memory is waning). But I'm glad that I invested the time in reading this book.

  • Exactly what I needed

    Great!
