    The History of the Siege of Lisbon by Jose Saramago (19

    Another great book set against historical context by the Portuguese Nobel Laureate in Literature, Jose, Saramago. He deftly raises questions of authorial intent and reader interpretation in a literary philosophical work. The master uses a love story to bring love, philosophy, epistemology and history out of the theoretical and into the realm of fiction.
