About this product

Product Information

Cohen the Barbarian. He's been a legend in his own lifetime. He can remember the good old days of high adventure, when being a Hero meant one didn't have to worry about aching backs and lawyers and civilization. But these days, he can't always remember just where he put his teeth... So now, with his ancient (yet still trusty) sword and new walking stick in hand, Cohen gathers a group of his old -- very old -- friends to embark on one final quest. He's going to climb the highest mountain of Discworld and meet the gods. It's time the Last Hero in the world returns what the first hero stole. Trouble is, that'll mean the end of the world, if no one stops him in time.

  • The Last of Cohen?

This episode in the lives of Rincewind, Cohen, et al. comes in the form of an illustrated "fairy tale" book. Paul Kidby does an excellent job portraying Genghis Cohen's hoary horde of barbarians, as well as the other characters of discworld, in his full color illustrations. It's a very handsome book. As for the story, if you've made it this far in the Wizard's Storyline (see my guide to reading Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels here), you know it's a winner. I found this, somewhat short, tale every bit as rewarding as the Last Continent, with humor just as fresh. It is a bit more expensive than the paperback versions of Pratchett's standard novels, but if you love hearing about Rincewind's zany adventures (with other great characters always lurking about), then I would say it is ...

  • Circle of Life? Bah, Humbug!

Here's what happens when the worlds greatest heroes confront that last great battle that no one can win. Rather than "shuffling off this mortal coil" quietly, Cohen the Barbarian and his Silver Horde decide to pay the gods back for their lack of immortality. The descriptions of the gods and goddesses alone is quite funny, and definitely worth the read. (For example, everytime you rattle around in the silverware drawer searching for the spatula, you pay homage to the goddess Annoia.) Leonardo of Quirm is called upon to devise a machine to stop the Horde, since the destruction of Dunmanifestin (home of the gods) would also tear apart the Discworld. The manned flight by an unwilling astronaut and a stowaway "monkey" shouldn't be missed. Go, buy, read and enjoy!
