Product Information

"This beautiful book is rich with wit and humanness and honesty and loving detail....I cannot overstate how liberating and transforming I have found Leaving Church to be." --Frederick Buechner, author of Beyond Words "This is an astonishing book. . . . Taylor is a better writer than LaMott and a better theologian than Norris. In a word, she is the best there is." --Living Church Barbara Brown Taylor, once hailed as one of America's most effective and beloved preachers, eloquently tells the moving and delightful story of her search to find an authentic way of being Christian--even when it meant giving up her pulpit.

I liked the first 1/2, but the last 1/2 just seemed to go on and on. I do like the author and her experiences.

  • Leaving Church Does Not Mean Losing Faith

It was recommended to me by many friends in our church. Barbara Taylor write very clear prose in telling her about her life. It is easier to see that being in the clergy is a rewarding experience but a draining one. We do expect too much of our clergy and all to often create wounded healers who can no longer heal. It is no disgrace to back off when necessarly.

  • I loved "Leaving Church" by Barbara Brown Taylor.

I bought this book because it was on the list for my Book Club's January discussion. I loved it! I had read Taylor's "Altars in the World" and felt that she was talking to and for me. My husband is a retired Presbyterian minister, so I have been and still am involved in church life. It was a wonderful read for me.
