  • An appropriate title for this book.

This is an outstanding reference for battleship USS Iowa. For the naval historian or the ship model builder it has left no stone unturned as to the appearance of the ship during various stages of its existance. It will be my source for building a 1/350 scale model of her 1944 appearance as well as another in her 1980's appearance. I have only two criticism: 1: The United States Navy does not refer to the guns aboard its ships as "Artillery". This is an incorrect term that has slipped into recent naval publications, mostly from Polish sources such as this one. The USN has always refered to guns as "Gunnery". 2: The camouflage paint colors are innacurate and inconsistant for her 1944 camouflage. She was painted in Navy Blue 5n and Light Grey 5L in the dazzle scheme. Color ...

  • Excellent visual source for General and detail-oriented ww2 warhship enthusiasts

Excellent source of information about the ship across its entire lifespan. Tons of high quality line drawings and highly detailed 3d renderings supported by photographs, text, and several data tables. The book feels good to hold. The author has included drawings of as many details of the ship as the limited page count would allow, from full-ship profiles down to the intricate gun systems and various deck sundries such as hatches, fans, ammo boxes and more. I certainly recommend the book for anyone interested in this specific ship, the class of ships, or the WW2 united states navy in general, seeing as how much of the depicted equipment can be found on multiple classes and types of ships.
